A LAMENT
By The Night Watchman

There is a place in Derby that’s called ‘The Bus Station’, lookin’ sad, fenced off, boarded up, excluded from the travelling nation.

It is opposite the old ‘New’ Eagle Centre, which is supposed to become the place to shop, cast away disposable income, eat and drink, ‘take the weight off.’

Sadly, the Bus Station has to go alas, but not, (happily) without a fight – makin’ way for a brand new pile, the profiteering Riverlights.

This is something with grand design, flats and bars and (formerly) cinemas. Now though, the cinema is moving, a complete new venture, relocating, in its wisdom, to the old ‘new’ Eagle Centre.

Now, what’s not yet been realised, before we’ve seen a builder’s hod – there’s space in’t Riverlights development now, for another daft idea, ‘Quad’.

The Quad’s another ‘centre’ (touted as modern), though the designers of it are clearly off – doin a design as bad as that is, lookin like a glass pig-trough.

Still, it suits the pigs that want to ruin Derby, put the pig-trough in the Market Place – build on land remembering fallen heroes – these trotters treat with such disdain.

For now though the piggies keep their own counsel, and their own council keeps them too - so, if by chance you’re feeling forceful, pass the boat with apple-sauce full.
