There seems to be a conflict of opinions regarding the development of the Elvaston Castle Estate. Just who do you believe?
Gerald Tommy,
Deputy Chief Executive of the County Council: "Derbyshire
County Council has no plans to sell the castle, the core
gardens or any part of the estate." He
said the council were determined to retain public access
to the park and gardens. Councillor
Bob Janes: "Public access is not and has
never been under threat and there will be no entry fee to
walk in the park." He
said that the plans are to retain free public access
throughout the park. Tanya
Spilsbury, Director of Highgate Sanctuary revealed in a
radio interview that there would be "loss
of public access to the parkland." Councillor
Bob Janes: "There would
probably be an admission charge to cover the cost of
maintaining the gardens, but it would be as cheap as we
could make it." |
